We knew we had a lot of stuff. It was one of the big decision factors for buying a house. We just didn’t realize how much stuff we had!
The week before we moved my mom and uncle came up to help us pack. I can’t begin to express how grateful we were for their help. I think we would still be moving if it wasn’t for them! We had stuff stuffed in every nook and cranny in our apartment and we had a full storage unit.
We rented the largest U-Haul we could find in the city, hired a couple of guys to load/unload the truck and were ready to go. Little did we know, the movers weren’t really movers, but a couple of guys looking for extra cash. They were terribly slow and didn’t know how to pack the truck worth crap. They were so bad they couldn’t fit everything in the truck and weren’t done with the job until after midnight. I won’t even get into how I had to ride the train out because they didn’t have transportation and failed to mention this when we hired them! For the next month we spent many hours with the Jeep going back and forth trying to collect the last of our items.
The day we moved was a late night and very long Friday but everything made it to the house ok and my parents and uncle were there to supervise :-). They helped a ton with unpacking that weekend and mom stayed for another week to help even more and potty train out new puppy, Ashton. We couldn’t have planned to get Ashton at a better time because my parent’s dog, Bailey, un-expectantly died the Sunday after we moved while she was being boarded at the vet. I hate that my parents were away when that happened and can only hope that having Byron and Ashton around helped ease the pain of losing her. She was an amazing dog and there will never be another like her.
