I must Vent!!

Ok. I an SO not happy with the current situation at work. At the beginning of the month, the technical director on the program retired and a guy that I work close with (lets call him Jack) took the open position. I was then promoted to Jack's old position of "Deputy Technical Director". (Prior to his retirement, there were 3 people doing the work of 4 and now there are 2 doing the same amount of work. Can we say extremely busy??) On the same day, there is a particular girl in the group (Lets call her Jane) who was demoted and now takes direction from me. Jane does absolutely nothing to contribute to the team. I am talking about completely worthless. Worthless to the point that she screws everything up and I end up cleaning up the mess because no one else in the group knows enough to fix things (except Jack who is ridiculously busy). When this was announced last week, I received some really nasty looks from Jane and there was a nasty look for the rest of the day. (Not as bad as the death stare from the "Devil's Daughter", but getting close.) Jane was conveniently gone for the majority of the day and then out sick for the rest of the week.

Anywho, back to why she is such a pain in the a$$. She never shares information with the team about what she is working on, even when she is on a planned vacation for a week. She talks to the customer and sends them documents without talking to the Tech Director, Engineering Manager, or Program Manager to get their permission to provide the information. She goes off of direction from the customer that isn't in writing or sent through contracts without talking to any of the leadership which leads us to trying to explain to the customer why we did something that wasn't contractually directed. On top of everything, just about everything that comes out of her mouth is false information. I wouldn't say she is lying, she just doesn't know what the hell she is talking about and is the expert on everything!! On a regular basis, I am talking to the customer, other departments in the company who are doing stuff for us, the manager, other team members.....etc trying to correct something that she has told them. Every time this happens I spend 2 to 3 times the amount of effort and energy in proving why the information she provided wasn't correct than it would have need if I would have worked the task in the first place.

Jane as been a pain in the rear for almost the past year. I started cleaning up for her last Nov when I was assigned to install the High G Shock Test Equipment because she dropped the ball and already missed her deadline. I was tired of this bull crap 6 months ago and I am really tired of it now (Oh goodness I can just hear mom saying that. It was actually her voice in my head when I was thinking it!). My manager (lets call him Bob) is fully aware of the situation, that she doesn't perform (and this information isn't provided by me), is difficult to work with, goes behind the program leadership (which I am now officially a part of!) and provides the customer with inaccurate information, doesn't share information with the team, and falsifies her time card (government work so we have special time charging stuff). Bob chooses to do nothing but demote her and doesn't even talk to her before he announces it to the group! I have lost a lot of respect for and faith in my manager in the last 6 months.

Anyway. Jane's week of "sick" leave happened just as Jane was coming back from a week of vacation. I had contacted the EMI lab about some testing that I was going to run there for a project I am working on independent of anything Jane is working (I'm not sure she even knows what I am working on....she sleeps through the majority of the meetings). There were a lot of questions from the EMI testing lab about qualification testing that Jane is responsible for and said was "under control" and the lab was "aware of everything and ready to test when we were". The had NO clue what was going on. Literally no clue! I have spent the past 2 weeks trying to explain to them what is going on and what we need done and how screwy our schedule is, .... etc. Jane decides that she is going to finally start coming to work again (on a very limited basis.....she has headaches in the afternoons and just can't handle it). She has started telling Jake and other people in the leadership team false information. One occurrance of this is conveniently while I am having the same conversation with Jake on instant Messenger. Now, all of this information is just stuff that Jane craps out of her mouth. Who know where it comes from. A lot of times she just says something so she can sound like she is an expert and then finds out 3 weeks later at crunch time she was wrong. Everything I have provide is information coming directly from the EMI lab, yet my manager thinks that Jane is correct because she has worked with the lab before and he has a lot of vested interest in her. He hired her 2 years ago and has put his neck on the line in the past to get her a substantial pay raise....and she has boobs. I hate to say it and I hate that it is this way, but in the work force, if you have boobs, you can get away with a lot of shit because managers are afraid of firing you.

Continuing the frustration, Jake had a conversation with Bob about Jane today and her inability to complete a task , share information, and how she sends documents to the customer without approval to do so. Bob became very defensive about the entire thing and actually defended her actions!! There were two other people on the team who weren't performing. One was transfered out of the group and the other was fired, what makes Jane any different (other than the boobs). She is actually worse than the other two since she is sending the customer information and no one knows about it or is copied on it.

Anyway. To make a very long venting session short. I am fed up with everything that is going on and I am not going to be told that my information is not trusted when Jane has nothing to back her information up and consistently provides false information. I am not going to continue to clean up after her when all this happens either. If you don't trust what I tell you in the beginning, don't come to me when the person who you did trust ended up not performing and provided inaccurate information! I am done being the clean up crew!! I will be very interested in seeing how things go once I start removing myself from the situation. Just like with the High G stuff, I will provide Jane information on things that she needs to take care of. After that, I will do nothing and let everything crash so my manager will see that she really is worthless and provides false information.
